The Legend of the Celtic Wedding Goblet

The tradition of turning a goblet with captive rings is deeply rooted in Irish culture back to the 17th Century, where it is considered a traditional wedding or anniversary gift.

The captured rings on a goblet symbolise the couple's commitment to each other. The two unbroken rings symbolise unity, strength, & everlasting love between a bride & groom. So long as the rings remain unbroken they would love each other for eternity.

A Wedding Goblet turned from Laburnum. It has a couple of cracks which appeared whilst turning. I have been filled with a purple resin to make a feature of the natural inclusions.

Laburnum is a sort after wood for wood turning due to the wonderful grain, colouring & hard, fine texture that gives the wood a beautiful feel when touched. It is a poisonous wood so the goblet is for display only & not for drinking out of. This is an ideal item to give as a wedding or anniversary present.
